Learn how to integrate nutritional interventions
into your existing (or new) practice in 3 steps!
In this Introduction to our concepts and methods, we present the Three Tiers of Nutritional Intervention and describe each step along the way.
The Expanding Your Horizon E-book lays out in simple language a roadmap for improving client outcomes.
Three Tiers of Nutritional Intervention
Psycho-Education
Teach your clients to understand the difference between optimally feeding their brains to restore proper neurotransmitter function, vs. simply tweaking their brains through the use of psychotropic medication.
Introduce them to:
#1 The Food/Mood Connection
#2 Withdrawal/Post-Acute Withdrawal or Abstinence Symptoms along with Mental Health Symptoms and Their Causes
#3 Common Biochemical Causes of Relapse & Emotional Dysregulation
In-Office Assessments and Recommendations
Some of you might want to assess some of the issues mentioned above. By using symptom questionnaires, you can begin to identify areas that may be impacting your client’s well-being and attempts to improve. These often end up being roadblocks to treatment and recovery, and may have been part of your client’s distress prior to addictive behavior.
- Amino Acid/Neurotransmitter Depletion Chart
- Three-Day Food/Mood/Craving Diary or 24-Hour Food/ Mood / Craving Chart

Laboratory Testing and Referrals
Assessment results from the previous Tier, may indicate the need for actual laboratory testing and formal diagnosis. You will learn which labs we recommend and the different types of providers to whom you might need to refer your clients for formal diagnosis and treatment.
