Expanding Your Horizon e-book
Integrate nutritional interventions into your practice in three steps
In this introduction to our concepts and methods, we present the Three Tiers of Nutritional Intervention and describe each step along the way.
The Expanding Your Horizon e-book lays out, in simple language, a roadmap for improving client outcomes in an existing or new practice.
Three Tiers of Nutritional Intervention
Each tier builds on the one before it, from educating clients to assessing their needs to referring them for testing and treatment.

Tier 1
Psycho-Education
Teach your clients the difference between optimally feeding their brains to restore proper neurotransmitter function and simply tweaking their brains with psychotropic medication.
Introduce them to:
- The food and mood connection
- Withdrawal, post-acute withdrawal, and abstinence symptoms, along with mental health symptoms and their causes
- Common biochemical causes of relapse and emotional dysregulation
-

Tier 2
In-Office Assessments and Recommendations
Symptom questionnaires help you identify areas that may be affecting your client’s well-being and efforts to improve. These often become roadblocks to treatment and recovery, and may have been part of your client’s distress before addictive behavior began.
- Amino Acid/Neurotransmitter Depletion Chart
- Three-Day Food/Mood/Craving Diary or 24-Hour Food/Mood/Craving Chart
- Pyroluria
- Candida overgrowth, and more

Tier 3
Laboratory Testing and Referrals
Assessment results from the previous tier may point to the need for laboratory testing and formal diagnosis.
You will learn which labs we recommend and the types of providers you may need to refer your clients to for formal diagnosis and treatment.
Empower yourself with knowledge
We hope this e-book gives you a strategy, a roadmap, for effectively integrating this approach into your practice or program.
