We’re thrilled to share some exciting news: the Academy for Addiction & Mental Health Nutrition was recently featured in NY Weekly, marking our 10th anniversary and founder Christina Veselak’s incredible 40-year career milestone.
This feature represents more than just recognition. It reflects a decade of dedicated work to transform how addiction and mental health treatment approaches nutrition, and it honors the journey that brought us here.
From Overlooked to Essential
When Christina founded the Academy in 2015, the connection between nutrition and mental health was barely acknowledged in treatment settings. Today, we’re training professionals worldwide to recognize and address the biochemical roots of addiction and emotional distress.
As Christina shares in the article: “It’s truly moving to see how far this field has come and how the Academy has been part of that progress.”

What Drives Our Mission
The Academy exists to bridge a critical gap. While many mental health and addiction professionals acknowledge the impact of nutrient deficiencies, few have the tools or training to address them effectively. We provide that missing piece through:
- Live and online education programs
- Professional consultations and hands-on training
- Evidence-based protocols using amino acid therapy and targeted nutrition
- Resources that empower lasting recovery
We’re bringing nutritional tools to the forefront of treatment, helping practitioners address root causes rather than relying solely on medication as the default.
Looking Forward
This anniversary year has been full of momentum. We recently hosted our inaugural Feed the Recovering Brain Summit, bringing together professionals from across disciplines to explore brain-focused nutritional recovery. This three-day conference is now set to become an annual event.
We’re also developing new resources, including a comprehensive professional textbook that expands on the principles from Christina’s first book, EAT! A Guide to Radiant Recovery Using Food and Amino Acids to Repair the Addicted Brain and Reduce Craving.
Try It Yourself
Christina offers this simple challenge: “Try eating 20 grams of protein every four hours and observe the difference it makes in your mental clarity, mood, and resilience. It’s a small step that could change your life.”
