Learn About Our 5 Star Pro-Recovery Diet

Do you mean I have to follow ANOTHER diet???

Not exactly! The 5 Star Pro~Recovery diet is an eating plan designed to give the recovering body and brain the right nutrients throughout the day to support a stable upbeat mood, a clear focused brain, deep restful sleep, and the ability to flow with stress. Sometimes in early recovery, food by itself is not enough to support recovery because we’ve neglected our nutrient intake for so long, and we have put our bodies through so much stress, those specific nutrients which you can find at any vitamin store, truly help jump-start the healing process. You can learn all about these nutrients in books like Eat Right to Live Sober by Ann Mueller, MD, or through training through The Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition. Our Certified Recovery Nutrition Coaches will be happy to share information with you as well.

OK, so what are these 5 Stars

*Protein: 15-20 grams every 3-4 hours to keep blood sugar stable and rebuild depleted neurotransmitter systems

*Healthy Fats: More olive oil, nuts and cold-water fish. High DHA eggs and even some butter and coconut oil! Less corn, soybean and peanut oil. NO transfats.

*Whole food carbohydrates like vegetables, whole grains, some fruit. Very little to no sugar!

*Remove foods with toxic substances such as pesticides, food coloring and preservatives. The liver doesn’t need any more toxins to detoxify and an addicted brain is often very sensitive to chemicals!!!

*Personalize your food intake according to stages of recovery (during detox, the food should be light and easy to digest); food allergies and intolerances, blood type, etc.
